Cheap Trick guitarist and songwriter Rick Nielsen bought his first Les Paul, a 1955 gold top, in 1965 at a bookstore in Rockford. This is why manufacturers use substitute materials. They were made for a few years. It has old growth Brazilian, Honduras Mahogony, Eastern Maple top ( think ZZ top Pearly Gates) and all the politically correct Les Paul stuff, Hide glue, long neck tenon, correct tail piece placement etc.
